PET LOSS WORDS
What to say when someone’s dog dies
The safest place to start is not advice. Start with the dog.

Use the dog's name.
Then mention one real thing you remember and acknowledge that the relationship mattered. A simple message is often stronger than a polished speech.
Example: “I’m so sorry about Charlie. I’ll always remember the way he waited at the window when you pulled into the driveway. He was clearly deeply loved. I’m thinking about you.”
Avoid rushing someone toward gratitude, closure, replacement pets, or a timeline for feeling better.
